Next Wednesday, November 18th, at 4:30 PM, Councilmember Tom LaBonge will hold his Winter 2009 Community Congress at Hollywood City Hall. There will be free food (from Palermo I'd bet).
Curiously, there is no mention of this event on CM LaBonge's website. The meeting is not mentioned in LaBonge's news & events section, nor is the meeting listed anywhere on the City's website. The meeting flyer, which is below, came via e-mail.
(*Update 11/13/09: The flyer was posted to CM LaBonge's website today. Still no mention in the news & events section and the event is still not listed on the City's website)
My point being: Here we are 6 days away from this "community" congress and there is nary a mention of this meeting on the web. How do you have a "community" congress if the community doesn't know the congress is happening?
Given the variety of ways CD 4 could publicize this meeting, why just rely on an e-mail blast? Why just reach out to stakeholders you already know? If you only use e-mail then people who aren't signed up to receive the CM's weekly email newsletter would have no idea this event was even happening.
Sadly, maybe that's the point. It sure is a lot easier to have a successful community meeting if you already know who is going to show up and what the are going to say.
That said, check out the Griffith Park Wayist's take on CM LaBonge's events:
These things are usually a lot of hot air and little substance with LaBonge interrupting the speaker and controlling the conversation, so don't think this is about community input. This quarter, LaBonge has collared City Attorney Carmen Trutanich as his guest. Trutanich can monopolize a discussion as much as LaBonge, so this might be mildly entertaining.
Mildly entertaining indeed.
