Tomorrow, September 20, 2011, the Department of City Planning is holding a Public Scoping Meeting (.pdf) to solicit input and comments for the preparation of the Sunset Bronson Studio Project's Environmental Impact Report. The Public Scoping Meeting will be held at Joseph Le Conte Middle School (1316 North Bronson Avenue), in the Theater, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. The meeting will be an open house format.
The scope of the proposed Sunset Bronson Studio Project [CPC-2010-1767-CU-GB], as described in the Notice of Preparation, includes the following elements:
- Construction of a 13-story, 314,495 square foot, office tower. The tower would be located at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Van Ness Avenue (where the KTLA radio tower currently stands).
- Construction of a 5-story, 90,304 square foot, production office building.
- Construction of a 7-story parking structure with 1635 parking spaces. The parking structure also includes 2 subterranean parking levels.
- Relocation of the KTLA radio tower from the corner of Sunset and Van Ness to the corner of Sunset and Bronson (in front of the Old Warner Brothers Studios Administration Building -- aka the "mansion").
For the most part, the proposed improvements will be constructed in place of the current surface parking lots that face Van Ness Avenue (though some existing buildings on the property will be demolished or relocated). One interesting thing to note (h/t to Big Orange Landmarks) is the studio facility (the entire site? some buildings?) was designated a City Historic Cultural Monument (HCM #180) back in 1977.
Comments on the project can be submitted to the Department of City Planning via mail, email, or at the Public Scoping Meeting. Check out the Notice of Preparation (link above) for contact information and where to submit your comments. Comments are due on October 11th, 2011.
