The Public Square: October 31 - November 2, 2011

A brief look at items of interest to Hollywood residents that are on upcoming agendas at City Council, City Council Committees, Neighborhood Councils, various City Boards and Commissions, and County Board of Supervisors. LA City Agendas can be found here and LA County Board agendas can be found here. Meeting times, locations, and agendas are subject to change, so be sure to check and confirm.

Monday, October 31:
  • No meetings of note.
Tuesday, November 1:
  • County Board of Supervisors (9:30 AM)
    • No items of note.
  • City Council (10:00 AM)
    • No items of note.
  • Information Technology and Governmental Affairs Council Committee (2:00 PM)
    • Item 4 (Council File 10-0092)
      • Motion instructing the Bureau of Street Services, with the assistance of the Information Technology Agency, to report on the feasibility of creating a City web-based interactive complaint system, similar to the SeeClickFix website, in order to better facilitate the public’s ability to report potholes located on City streets and to request pothole repair.
      • Viewpoints: If the City is going to develop a SeeClickFix type system they should create one that can be used to report more than just potholes. Such a system should also have the ability to accept reports on broken streetlights, damaged sidewalks, tree in need of trimming, graffiti, illegal dumping, etc.
  • Planning and Land Use Management Council Committee (2:30 PM)
Wednesday, November 2:
  • City Council (10:00 AM)
    • Item 10 (Council File 11-1339)
      • Transportation Committee Report relative to the renewal of "Temporary" Preferential Parking District (PPD) No. 112 and authorizing a change in its parking restrictions so non-resident parking could be prohibited on weekends.
      • PPD No. 112 is located on the residential streets south and east of Runyon Canyon Park's Vista Street entrance (i.e. Franklin, Sierra Bonita, and Gardner) and north of Hollywood Boulevard. The current restrictions of PPD No. 112 are No Parking 7PM-8AM and 2 Hour Parking 8AM-7PM. LADOT is recommending (.pdf) that the restrictions be changed to No Parking Anytime Except; 2 Hour Parking 8AM-7PM Monday to Friday.
      • ViewpointsI've argued that the implementation of "weekend parking restrictions in PPD No. 112 may help quiet some of the local residents who are clamoring for a little relief but, in the long run, doing so won't really address the root of the area's problem."
    • Item 13 (Council File 11-1376
      • Transportation Commitee relative to the status of the City's on-street car share Request for Proposals. Direction to LADOT that they report back to the Transportation Committee in the next 45 days on the status of the Request for Proposals.
  • Public Works Council Committee (2:00 PM)
    • Item 3 (Council File 11-1246
      • Continued consideration of a motion relative to a non-motorized, multi-modal, bridge project connecting Griffith Park and the Los Angeles River Bike Path to the North Atwater neighborhood.
      • Viewpoints: Curbed LA recently reported that the bridge "has finally received the cash it needed to move ahead--$4 million from Morton La Kretz, whose name is also attached to UCLA and the city's new businesses incubator Downtown."
