The Public Square: June 4–6, 2012

A brief look at items of interest to Hollywood residents that are on upcoming agendas at City Council, City Council Committees, Neighborhood Councils, various City Boards and Commissions, and County Board of Supervisors. LA City Agendas can be found here and LA County Board agendas can be found here.

As always, the meeting times, locations, and agendas are subject to change, so be sure to check and confirm.

Monday, June 4:

  • Budget and Finance Council Committee (2:00 PM)
    • Item 9 (Council File 12-0604)
      • Motion (.pdf) instructing the City Clerk to report on the feasibility and cost of adding Armenian as a language available on election ballot materials starting with the 2013 or 2015 elections. Per the Motion, there “were over 28,000 registered voters of Armenian descent in the City” at last count.

Tuesday, June 5:

  • City Council (10:00 AM)
    • Item 11 (Council File 11-1987)
      • Transportation Council Committee report relative to authorizing the LADOT General Manager to administratively renew Temporary Preferential Parking Districts. The report recommends that City Council approve said change and request the City Attorney to prepare the required ordinance.
      • If this ordinance change is approved the LADOT General Manager would have the administrative authority to automatically renew a Temporary Preferential Parking District – unless a Council Member requests a written report and review.
      • Viewpoints: I stick to what I said before. If this is approved then every Temporary Preferential Parking District would, in effect, become a permanent one AND we can look forward to a lot more of these “temporary” districts in the future.
  • Planning and Land Use Management Council Committee (2:00 PM)
    • Item 3 (Council File 09-2645)
      • City Attorney report (.pdf) relative to the developments regarding the regulation of the placement of cell towers and related equipment. The City Attorney’s Report has three recommendations:
        1. Remove the City’s Above Ground Facilities Specifications and Procedures Exemption for Utility Pole or Streetlight Mounted Cell Towers.
        2. Expand the City’s Above Ground Facilities Specifications and Procedures notification requirements.
        3. Enhance existing aesthetic criteria in the City’s Above Ground Facilities Specifications and Procedures.

Wednesday, June 6:

  • County Board of Supervisors (9:30 AM)
    • Item 86-B (Motion by Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky)
      • Motion (.pdf) requesting the County Chief Executive Officer to recommend one or more candidates for the position of Chief Deputy County Assessor to the Board.
      • Los Angeles County Assessor John Noguez recently announced that he would take a leave of absence due to the on-going investigation of his office. In such a situation the Chief Deputy County Assessor would then become the acting County Assessor, however that position is currently vacant – thus the need for this action by the County Board.
  • City Council (10:00 AM)
    • No items of note.
